Asset Visibility & Inventory
Automatic Asset Discovery
Once the First Watch® platform is connected to the industrial network and the required agents or sensors are deployed, the system immediately begins automatic asset discovery.
From an operational perspective, this means that no manual data entry or pre-definition of assets is required to achieve initial visibility. The platform continuously and passively collects comprehensive information about assets as they appear and communicate within the environment.
Automatically discovered information includes:
- Network-connected devices participating in industrial and supporting communications
- Controllers, supervisory systems, workstations, servers, and infrastructure components
- Software and firmware details where visibility is available
- Engineering tools and applications interacting with control systems
- User and system accounts observed through authenticated activity
This discovery process is designed to be non-intrusive and does not interfere with control logic, deterministic communication, or normal industrial operations.
The resulting asset inventory provides operators with an immediate, unified view of the environment. This view forms the baseline for all subsequent activities — including monitoring, change detection, policy enforcement, investigation, and reporting.

Operational Capabilities
Asset visibility is the foundation of all operational and security actions within the platform:
- Automatic discovery of OT and IT assets without disrupting operations
- Unified inventory covering hardware, software, firmware, and user accounts
- Asset verification and approval workflows to distinguish authorised and unauthorised assets
- Continuous tracking of asset changes with historical context
Operators use asset inventory to establish trusted baselines, validate maintenance activities, and identify unexpected additions or removals.
